Basilica of St. Nicholas
Directly opposite Amsterdam Central Station is the impressive Nicholas Basilica with its high dome and two towers. The building with the nickname 'Cathedral on the IJ' was built between 1884 and 1887 and has both neo-baroque and neo-Renaissance style elements. The interior was completely restored in 1999 and is particularly multicolored and richly decorated.
The acoustics of the St. Nicholas Basilica are beautiful. Organ playing and choral singing benefit from the spatial reverberation that allows the music to come into its own.
For more information about the church building, see the official website.
